Salima District Forestry Office (DFO) on Friday, 1st March 2019 shared technical expertise on afforestation with students from Lifidzi Primary and Community Day Secondary Schools. During the interaction, Salima District Forestry Officer, Adam Jason, urged the students to take a leading role in natural resources management in their communities. According to Jason, school-going students have the capability of changing the perception of their communities on environment by championing the concepts of ownership.
“We came here to have a face-to-face interaction with these school-going youngsters and share some basic natural resources management tips. By imparting such knowledge to these students, we have a significant hope of changing the next generation from being parasites to the environment to becoming friends of the environment," he said.
Jason also shared guidance on why students should choose forestry after completing secondary school.
In her comment, Lifidzi Community Day Secondary School Headteacher, Jane Kachilika Banda, thanked forestry officials for arranging the trip saying it will bring an impact at the facility. 1,000 acacia trees were also planted during a symbolic tree planting exercise around the two school premises.
